Working Together
Easy steps to improving how people with a learning disability are supported when in hospital
The guidelines say that:
* People with learning disabilities should get the help they need from health services
* Health carers should find out if they need to change the way they work
* Health carers should listen more to the families and support staff of people with learning disabilities because they usually know most about them and the support they need
* Health carers should not expect relatives or paid support staff of people with learning disabilities to provide care whilst they are in hospital – they should ask them and find out what support they need
The Government wanted to know if people with learning disabilities had their human rights respected.
