Hate crime (harassment of disabled people)
The European Human Rights Commission has just publised a report into the harassment of disabled people.
The report is called 'Hidden in Plain Sight' and there is an easy read version of this report. To find out more about this report click here
ACPO (Asociation of Chief Police Officers) say that a hate crime is:
'any hate incident, which constitutes a criminal offence, perceived by the victim or any other person, as being motivated by prejudice or hate.'
Prejudice or hate may be based on personal characteristics including:
-
disability (including learning disability)
-
race
-
religion
-
sexual orientation
-
transgender
Are you, or is someone you know, being bullied, harassed or verbally abused? Is this because of your sexual orientation, religion, learning disability, disability or race?
