We’ve set up this website to tell you what the Valuing Medway People Learning Disability Partnership Board is and what it does. And we’ve included lots of information to help you find out about things like having fun, working and learning, travelling and sorting out your money.

What We Do
The Valuing Medway People Learning Disability Partnership Board works to make sure that Valuing People Now happens in Medway. The key messages in Valuing People Now are:
- People with learning disabilitiesshould have the same rights and choices as everyone else.
- People with learning disabilities have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
- People with learning disabilities should have the same chances and responsibilities as everyone else.
- Family carers and families of people with learning disabilities have the right to the same hopes and choices as other families.

What is ‘Valuing People’?
‘Valuing People’ is the government's plan for making the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families and carers better.
It was written in 2001, and it was the first White Paper for people with learning disabilities for 30 years. It covers England.
It is based on people having -
- their rights as citizens
- inclusion in local communities
- choice in daily life
- real chances to be independent
It was written with help from people with learning disabilities, family carers, and people who work in services or other organisations for people with learning disabilities.
It came with an easier to understand version, as well as a report from the service users advisory group called 'Nothing about us without us', a report on family carers called 'Family Matters', and a report on learning difficulties and ethnicity.
